PIJS - Tim Walker

Hello Beautiful People,

So I've been trying to stop myself from using Tim Walker so far in an attempt to show some newer faces of my influence catalog. However, today I just decided I might as well get it out of the way and present to you my maaad photographic crush.

Tim Walker has been one of my favourite photographers for many years now. He again needs no introduction as he has shot for Vogue Magazine for the past decade and started his career assisting Richard Avedon.

The reason why I like Tim Walker is because Tim Walker makes magic.

This may seem too simplistic an explanation so I'll expand a little. Walker evokes a childlike glee in me that makes me take time to look at wonderous and beautiful things just because. His photographs are so ethereal at times that you can completely forget they we created and manipulated by the human hand and eye. He has such intricate attention to detail and makes sure everything in the frame is there for a reason. His colours are also so incandescent, you want to eat them. Well your eyes do!

He is amazing and I hope to one day have such a clear vision, incredible imagination, and undeniable style.

Have a look!

People I'm Jealous of Saturdays...Errr Sunday

Hey Y'all,

I have to apologize as People I'm Jealous of Saturdays was moved to Sunday this week in order to accommodate my shooting schedule but in the long run that means I have work of my own to show you in the near future! I'm sure you were all itching with anticipation...you couldn't wait to see who I was going to choose next, right? Well without further adieu, here is my choice for this week: Tom Munro.

Tom Munro is an amazing fashion photographer and if you've picked up an issue of Vogue, Vanity Fair, or Elle lately you're likely to have seen his photographs grace the pages. Tom Munro began his career in photography in his twenties after attending Parsons and assisting world renowned photographer Steven Meisel. When you look at his images I think the influence of Meisel is heavily visible in the way he pushes boundaries and shows us the most unlikely of scenes. To me, Munro's work looks like he's caught everyone off guard. The models and/or celebrities came in expecting a photography shoot and Munro pounced before anyone was settled in order to deliver the raw, uncut version. Munro had a great quote in a recent Elle magazine interview that I felt shed light onto what sets him apart,

Photography is a way of life, more than a job. You have to live and breathe it and be passionate about what you're doing. It needs to be fed and nurtured and isn't something you can pick up and put down. In a way, it consumes your life."

I can totally relate to that and completely resontate with Munro's images.

People I'm Jealous of Saturdays - The Wade Brothers

Hello Lovely Followers,

A new week culminates in a weekend of debauchery. I sure have my glass of red and my cat. (Rebel.) And now it's time to show you something unique from my vault of secret influences. This week I will be showing you The Wade Brothers.

The Wade Brothers are indeed actually brothers by the blood lines like in the 'he aint heavy he's my brother' kind of way. Both brothers are incredibly talented and sought after the globe over for their unique look on lifestyle, fashion and advertising. Their client list is book length and they've won a host of prestigious awards including Luerzer's Archive voting them top 100 photographers in the world.

The reason I like them is because I've never seen someone able to capture the raw emotion, cinematic tone and sense of urgency of a motion picture all in one frame. Each individual photograph looks like a still from something deeper. I constantly feel as though I've missed part of the story and am trying desperately to figure out what happens next or what happened before. It's a gorgeous magical quality that can evoke strength, desperation, grotesque scenes and cerebral moments.

Have a look for yourself. Here are a few images from some of The Wade Brothers Campaigns for Keds and House of Fly 53, as well as a personal project I fell in love with called Room 107. Check them out yourself at http://thewadebrothers.com/

People I'm Jealous of Saturdays

Hello Lovely Followers,

In an effort to keep on a steady blogging track as I'm finally liking the feel of my site now and need gentle blogging nudges, I am going to commit to blogging once a week about great photographers. Whether they be famous, local, or both, I really want to introduce or reacquaint my followers with some amazing artists and hopefully inspire/re-inspire myself to create and make beautiful things. I'm going to call it 'People I am jealous of Saturdays.' You know, in a fun and ironic sort of way! woo! Hope you enjoy it.

A photographer who I wanted to feature today is Mikael Jannson. Although he doesn't need my help. Like at all. (He is already one of the most sought after fashion photographers in the world and got his start assisting Richard Avedon *sigh.*) AND he's from Stockholm, where I swear all amazing people come from. He recently came to mind again when I saw his latest cover and spread for Interview Magazine of Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart.  I don't even like Kristen Stewart but I loved these images.

What I love about his celebrity work is his ability to take insanely famous people and bring out this incredibly raw, paired down, intimate side to them. It looks as though he was able to get some kind of insight into them that no one else could. His delicate lighting and grainy film all add to this isolated moment where we get to see a glimpse of something real from people who generally seem so untouchable.

Have a look at some of my favourites and the latest cover of Interview Magazine:

Beauty and New Web/Blog Design

Hello Lovely Followers,

I was having a bit of an identity crisis and felt my blog didn't reflect me as well as I wanted it to and that my website could be stronger.

So today I went through and attempted to streamline my website and blog and give them both a fresh new look. I needed a change and really wanted a better customizable blog. I've switch to blogger so we'll see how this works. I also added a beauty section to my website with the aid of some great shoots I took part in last week. I really like the new feel and am grateful for the new images. Please feel free to take a look at stephaniecoffeyphotography.com/beauty !

I hope you enjoy and I am excited for some great new things to come this summer!
